Arts Council hosts artist’s reception

The Lassen County Arts Council Gallery, 807 Cottage St., hosts an artist’s reception for retired physician Peter Wilcox and his collection of intimate patient portraits from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. Wilcox said he became interested in photography as a child by his father who took many photographs as part of his professional life.

“I was the doc at a community health clinic in Arizona at the end of the last century, serving mostly indigent patients, particularly Mexican and Guatemalan undocumented workers,” Wilcox said. “I started taking portraits of my patients — they let me photograph them in exchange for giving them 8 by 10 glossies of the results.”

The gallery is open from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call the Arts Council at 257-5222 for more information.
