Baccarat Fire in Nevada 40 percent contained Tuesday
UPDATE 11 a.m. Tuesday: The Baccarat Fire, burning on the Nevada side of the Peterson Mountain Range, is 40 percent contained Tuesday, and has burned 10,500 acres, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

UPDATE 7 p.m. Monday: Officials are calling the Baccarat Fire, which was mapped at 8,017 acres on the Nevada side of the Peterson Mountain Range, 10 percent contained. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District also announced earlier in the day that evacuations had been lifted effective as of 3 p.m., with the exception of homes between Bird Springs Road and Chuckwagon Road, where residents can return tomorrow, Tuesday, at 6 a.m.
The cause of the blaze will be investigated by the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. Monday: According to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, evacuations have been lifted effective as of 3 p.m. with the exception of homes between Bird Springs Road and Chuckwagon Road, where residents can return tomorrow, Tuesday, at 6 a.m.

UPDATE 1 p.m. Monday: “Good progress” is being made against the Baccarat Fire in Nevada, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District shared Monday afternoon. Evacuations currently remain in effect, and Red Rock Road is currently closed between Chuckwagon Road and Bobcat Hill Road.

UPDATE 10:10 a.m. Monday: The Baccarat Fire has burned an estimated 8,000 acres, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District shared Monday. Currently there are five aircraft attacking fire, according to TMFPD, and there are no reports of structures damaged.

The Baccarat Fire, burning north of Cold Springs on the Nevada side of the Peterson Mountain Range, prompted evacuations and there is no containment as of Monday morning. A red glow from the blaze could be seen near the California, Nevada border on Highway 395 Sunday night.
According to Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, the brush fire, which started Sunday, Oct. 4, had burned about 1,400 acres Monday morning, and evacuations were in place.
Evacuations were announced for residents between Columbia Hill Road and Chuckwagon Road in Nevada. On Sunday night TMFPD warned residents between Argosy Road and Columbia Hill Road west of Red Rock Road to be prepared to evacuate.
According to TMFPD, “Currently, fire is slow spread, no containment and is generating a lot of smoke. Air attack is enroute. Residents should remain vigilant and be ready to leave.”

The Livestock Events Center in Reno is taking large animals, and those evacuated can check in to an evacuation shelter at 1155 E. Ninth St. in Reno.
