Banner Lassen Medical Center announces new Chief Nursing Officer

Banner Lassen Medical Center is pleased to share that on November 15, 2021, Mary Smith, RN, MSN, joins us as Chief Nursing Officer. In this role, she’ll have overall accountability for providing leadership, direction and administration of day-to-day operations associated with direct patient care activities and clinical education and development, including continuous improvement of nursing services and staff to meet the needs and expectations of the patients we serve at BLMC.

Mary brings more than 25 years of experience in direct nursing care and leadership and prides herself on being visible and accountable to the frontline she works for, as well as identifying and removing the barriers that make our work harder.

Mary rejoins Banner, having worked previously at Banner Del W. Webb Medical Center as interim, senior manager for intensive care as well as director of progressive care, intensive care, central monitoring, stroke services and heart failure services. She also spent time at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center as a senior manager of progressive care services.

Outside of Banner, Mary has held a variety of nursing leader roles such as medical surgical cardiac unit manager at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Wisconsin and the director of ICU, PCU, medical surgical services, central monitoring, and wound services at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center in Oregon. Most recently she served as director of the cardiac surgical intensive care unit, cardiac cath lab, short-stay services, IMCU, neuro/cardiac telemetry services and advanced providers at Dignity Mercy Medical Center in California.

Mary earned her associate degree in Nursing from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, Wisconsin, her bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, and her Master of Science in Nursing Administration from University of Mary, Bismarck, North Dakota.
