Big rig crash kills Lassen County man

An unidentified Lassen County man was killed when his big rig rear ended another big rig on Highway 395 about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 19.

According to a statement from the California Highway Patrol, Moren Dahl, 45, of Fallon, Nevada, was driving a 2014 Peterbilt semi pulling a flatbed trailer northbound on Highway 395, approximately 5 miles north of County Road A25.

Dahl slowed his truck to make a right turn into a ranch that adjoins Highway 395. For reasons under investigation, the unidentified driver of a 2012 Mack semi pulling a chip trailer also traveling northbound on Highway 395 failed to slow for the truck in front of him and struck the trailer of the Peterbilt semi.

As a result of this collision, the unidentified driver sustained fatal injuries. Dahl was transported to Banner Lassen  Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Highway 395 was impacted for several hours while rescue and cleanup crews worked at the scene. The name of the unidentified driver was withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

According to the CHP, “We share our sincerest condolences with the family and friends of the deceased party. This crash is currently under investigation.”
