Hikers, mountain bikers and runners can again use the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail near Susanville, as the Bureau of Land Management has rescinded a temporary emergency closure associated with the Dixie Fire.
Also reopened are the Hobo Camp and Devil’s Corral trailheads and all other BLM-managed lands that were affected by the emergency closure that went into effect Aug. 16. This includes BLM-managed lands south of California Highway 36, west of U. S. 395. and north and east of the Lassen National Forest boundary.
“Evacuation warnings and orders for the area have been lifted and we feel it is again safe to access the trail and Susan River Canyon,” said Emily Ryan, manager of the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office. “It is important that trail users be alert, as fire equipment might still need to access the trail for fire-related activities such as patrol and rehabilitation.”
Ryan also noted that the western portions of the trail in the Lassen National Forest are still closed in accordance with a closure order affecting northern California national forests.
