Bowling alley fire still under investigation

A cold evening blaze lit up the sky and shut down traffic on Main Street in Susanville.

At about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, local fire agencies were dispatched to the Susanville Bowling Alley located at 2772 Main St. for a commercial structure fire.

According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, when the first engine arrived, smoke and fire were observed coming from the roof.

An aggressive coordinated attack from the roof contained the flames at about 7:42 p.m. and extensive salvage and overhaul operations were performed.

A small portion of the interior was a complete loss, and the remainder of the building sustained extensive smoke damage, read the statement.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Susan River Fire Protection District, Cal Fire, California Correctional Center firefighters, Susanville Police Department, Susanville City Public Works, CHP, Cal OES Air 1, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Janesville Fire Protection District and Sierra Army Depot Fire Department offered assistances during the blaze.
