Brian Dahle comments upon state budget

District 1 State Senator Brian Dahle.

California District 1 Senator Brian Dahle released this statement regarding the state budget.

“The budget indicates the legislature’s priorities, and there are many misplaced priorities I am particularly concerned about, especially with such a large budget deficit.

“The Democrats’ decision to allocate over $1 billion to the high-speed rail, but reduce millions in funding for housing support for veterans is deeply disappointing. We should be supporting those who have selflessly sacrificed so much for our freedoms.

“The budget diverts the MCO tax that should bolster California’s healthcare delivery system, potentially resulting in more hospital closures statewide.

“Additionally, while crime continues to ravage businesses and neighborhoods, the majority party chose to decrease funding to the California Department of Corrections, likely leading to the early release of even more criminals.

“Businesses will suffer under this budget proposal with increased taxes and other onerous regulations. Not to mention the loss of funding for broadband and middle-mile infrastructure in communities that need it most. Overall, it’s a budget proposal that reflects the priorities of very few, and ultimately hurts everyday Californians.”
