MEET THE CANDIDATE

Gary Bridges, who is running for the District 2 Lassen County Board of Supervisors seat, is holding a Meet and Greet at 6 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Joes’s Coffee, located at 2300 Main St. in Susanville. Bridges will be discussing his vision for the county and answering any questions. Come meet the candidate.

 

COVENTRY GARDEN HOSTS TWO EVENTS

If the winter chill has got you a little antsy, Rob and Linda Hart invite you to come in from the cold at Coventry Gardens at the historic Walker Mansion in Westwood for their upcoming January comfort food dinner or their Sunday Tea, or both. The dinner is Friday, Jan. 24 featuring choice of sliced beef in mushroom gravy over pasta, Mexican chicken casserole or shepherd’s pie with sides and dessert. The Sunday afternoon Tea is Jan. 26 at noon with hors d’ oeuvres. For reservations, call 256-2133.

ROCKIN’ THE COUNTRY

Susanville Best of Broadway is hosting a “Rockin’ the Country” performance. This rock n’ roll and country music performance will feature more than 20 great local talents. They will have dancing and a cash bar by American Legion Post 204. This event will be Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Veterans Memorial Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the performance will start at 7 p.m. You can get your tickets at Margie’s Book Nook, the Chamber of Commerce or at the front door.

 

BATTER UP

If you have a little slugger, age 4 to14, who wants to learn the fundamentals of baseball, learn sportsmanship and team spirt, Susanville Little League is having sign-ups. You can sign up online at susanvillelittleleague.org now through March 2. There will also be an in-person sign-up at Susanville Pizza Factory from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 29. Also, don’t forget to mark your calendar for March 7 for mandatory tryouts for players ages 8 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pat Murphy Little League field. IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

Are you older than 18 and looking to gain or improve your job skills? Need a high school diploma? Spring semester 2020 has started for Lassen Union High School District’s adult programs. The free courses are open entry.

Diploma Gold offers a high school diploma program and is held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday nights. In the computer courses, attendees can learn Microsoft Office with a self-paced instructor-guided course from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday nights, and the woodshop/construction trades course is project based learning to develop woodworking skills. It is held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

MARCH MADNESS

The ladies at the Monticola Club want to let everyone know that if you are thinking about hosting an event, the month of March is the month to rent the Clubhouse. See their ad in this week’s paper to see the promotion they are having. The clubhouse is located at 1450 S. Lassen and has a fully equipped kitchen, tables and chairs and enough tableware to feed 100 people. The Monticola Club can be reached at 257-8087. The Monticola club has been around since 1912 and has dedicated themselves to improving the community.

Michelle Zubillaga and everyone at Menath Insurance would like to welcome Charnee Valentine to their team. She will be working in the Susanville office. Valentine is a licensed agent and is looking forward to servicing both existing and new customers in both personal and commercial lines. She comes to the agency with insurance experience. Valentine has lived in Susanville for many years and attended local elementary and high schools as well as Lassen Community College. In her spare time, Charnee enjoys the local outdoor areas; she likes to hike, fish and swim.
