Business Scene for the week of 9/05/17

Tune up your bicycle, and grab your running shoes for the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms Duathlon, set for Saturday, Sept. 16. You can do the run, bike, run yourself or grab a few friends to either run or bike. This is a fundraiser for the local Blue Star Moms chapter who support our military and veterans. You can still register online at Eventbrite, Blue Star Cougar Challenge by Sept. 6 to receive a race T-shirt. Or if you chose to register that morning, it will be from 7 to 8 a.m., no shirts will be provided then. For more information, call president Joanne Darlington at 249-0453.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, head uptown to 65 South Roop St. to the LMUD business office where they will be serving up hot dogs and all the fixings for their annual Customer Appreciation Celebration. Customers can pick up all sorts of goodies as well as enter a drawing for an LMUD energy gift card. See their ad in this week’s paper for more information.

Kerri Cobb, branch manager of US Bank in Uptown Susanville tells us they are grateful to our men and women in uniform. They offer special products and services for veterans and military families, like monthly maintenance fees waived and more. Next Saturday, Sept. 16 is the Centennial celebration of the historic Lassen County Courthouse on South Lassen Street. There are lots of activities planned that day, starting with the Blue Star Moms Cougar Challenge Duathlon, a Centennial breakfast at the Masonic Hall, installation of the granite marker at Peter Lassen Monument, Courthouse tours, a Wine Walk, a Concert on the Green and so much more. Be sure and check out next week’s paper for more information about all of these events. It’s a busy day you won’t want to miss.

The Thompson Peak Writer’s Workshop will be sponsoring a Words and Music night at the Artisan Coffeehouse in Janesville from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. Local writers and poets will read recent works and there will be time for new voices during open mic time. Sam Williams will perform music. There is no fee, however, donations to the Artisan Coffeehouse Chamber Mixer fund would be greatly appreciated.
