CalFire announces Hog Flat Vegetation Management Project

Beginning at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday May 23, CalFire will conduct a Vegetation Management Project along Highway 44 between Hog Flat Reservoir and Goumaz Road west of Susanville.

This ongoing project will treat 40 acres of timber and understory if climate conditions are optimal, ensuring control, limiting escape and minimizing poor air quality. In the event of high winds or other fire activity indicating the project cannot be conducted in a safe manner, the project will be rescheduled.

Do not be alarmed by visible smoke in the air. Use caution when travelling through the area due to emergency vehicles and fire fighters along the highway.

CalFire engages in fuels reduction projects year-round for the purpose of:

  • Reducing dead and down fuels.
  • Reducing the risk of devastating wildfire.
  • Improving wildlife habitat, watershed value, and range improvement Providing training opportunities.
