Caltrans announces Highway 139 project
The California Department of Transportation, in conjunction with Hat Creek Construction & Materials Inc., is constructing the Bieber to Adin Roadway Rehabilitation Project. The $20 million project includes $3 million in funding from Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The project will widen shoulders, extend and replace culverts and improve roadway connections along Highway 299 and Highway 139 in both Lassen and Modoc Counties.
“The Bieber to Adin Roadway Rehabilitation Project is a significant SB 1 project here in District 2,” said Caltrans Director 2 Director Dave Moore. “Thanks to SB 1, we are able to make investments in the district that fix our aging infrastructure, upgrade and maintain the state highway system and enhance safety for thousands of motorists who use this stretch of Highways 299 and 139.”
Highway 299 will have daytime traffic control through May 28 as the contractor works eastward through the Highway139/Highway 299 junction, and towards the eastern project limits surrounding Adin. On June 2, the contractor will begin work on Highway 299, southwest of Adin toward Bieber and will have 24-hour traffic control at points along the route until the 4th of July weekend. All drivers are urged to slow down and drive carefully in and around construction areas and allot extra time for delays.
SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
