Caltrans provides update on Highway 70 closure

Caltrans announced today, Oct. 27, that State Route 70 remains closed between Jarbo Gap and the Greenville Wye (Butte/Plumas County) with no current estimated time of reopening.

Crews are continuing to assess damage to the route following recent storms. Multiple slides occurred along the highway, with the largest bringing approximately 5,000 cubic yards of large material onto the roadway near the Plumas/Butte County line. This slide area remains extremely active. Damage assessment is also ongoing to check drainages and roadway infrastructure following flooding from the storms.

This closure is in effect for the safety of the traveling public, as well as our maintenance and contracted personnel in the area. There is currently no designated detour for this closure. Motorists are advised to choose alternate routes and to check for restrictions if traveling in big rigs or other larger vehicles.

Please note that State Routes 89 and 36 have delays due to continued post-Dixie Fire emergency work. The Oro Quincy Highway is currently closed between Junction House and the Butte/Plumas County line due to an area of roadway failure.
