Carlene Joy (Cornett) Fremd

On March 15, 2023, Carlene Joy (Cornett) Fremd closed her eyes on this earth and opened them in the glorious presence of her Heavenly Father.

Carlene was born on April 19, 1936, in Westwood, California, but moved to Susanville, California, at the age of 6. At the age of 12, along with her parents, Jim and Doris Riddell, and sister, Ann, they moved into their new home on Hill Street where she spent the rest of a wonderful childhood having adventures along with many friends. In 1953 she married the love of her life Albert Fremd and spent the early years of marriage raising her family and working at Laurentide Loans.

In 1962, Albert and Carlene along with their children, Kim and Scott, moved to Redding, California, where Carlene began a 25-year career as a bookkeeper and executive assistant at Meek’s Lumber Company working alongside her husband Albert.

Carlene loved spending time with her family and friends and was always ready to help anyone in need. She loved reading books, especially historical fiction, and belonged to a book and movie club that met twice a month discussing the book or movie of the month while encouraging her friends in their life’s journey. She was an accomplished painter who loved watercolor painting and sketching pictures of God’s handiwork in nature, especially of flowers and landscapes. She also loved to make children’s quilts and gave them out to family and friends. Carlene was a prayer warrior constantly interceding for her family and friends.

She is survived by her son Scott and his wife Ann and children, Ian, Hannah and Joe, great-granddaughter Makenna Fremd; her son-in-law Bob Griffith, granddaughter Kristen (Kristen’s husband Juan Madera and great-grandson Jaden of Sacramento); sister Ann Barham of Clearwater, Idaho; brother Jim and sister in-law Sandy Riddell of Pace, Florida and many nieces and nephews. Her beloved husband Albert, daughter Kim Griffith and sister Elaine Riddell Hasha preceded her in death.

A celebration of life for Carlene and the interment of Carlene and Albert will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, in Susanville, California, at the Diamond Crest Cemetery at 11:30am.
