Last week Maitland Carpenter, 42, was sentenced to 12 years and four months in state prison.

Carpenter pleaded guilty July 30 in Lassen County Superior Court and was sentenced Aug. 18 on one count of forcible rape with a firearm enhancement and one count of domestic violence with a firearm enhancement.
“He admitted to using a firearm during the commission of that rape,” said Susan Rios, Lassen County District Attorney. “He also admitted to using a firearm during the commission of the domestic violence as well. He has to register as a sex offender for life.”
KOLO 8 reports Carpenter’s attorney, Michael Wise, said the suspect agreed to plead guilty to avoid the possibility of a life sentence had his case gone to trial.
