Carroll Street fire damages carport

The Susanville Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 415 Carroll Street about 9:43 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. The first engine company reported a fully involved carport fire that was attached to the house. Quick and aggressive firefighting efforts contained the fire to the carport are and extinguished the fire with moderate damage to the garage and minor damage to the residence. Hot ashes stored in a plastic bucket near other combustibles caused the fire. There were no injuries.

The Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, CalFire, the California Correctional Center Fire Department, the High Desert State Prison Fire Department and the Susan River Fire Protection District also responded, including three chief officers, five engines, one truck and three SPD units totaling 27 personnel.

The SFD reminds residents to store ashes in approved containers outside and away from all combustible materials.
