CCC begins transfer process for officers, inmates

Responding to a question from lassennews.com, Vicky Waters,

Special Advisor and Assistant Secretary of Communications, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, explained the transfer process already underway at the California Correctional Center.

According to a statement from Waters, “Part of the closure plan is to minimize impact to prison staff as much as possible, and the department has given correctional officers the option to participate in voluntary delayed lateral transfer(s) to other prisons where we currently have vacancies.

“While voluntary delayed lateral transfer awards will be made in the near future, officers will transfer on a staggered basis as operational needs allow, and will be done thoughtfully, and in accordance with public safety. The prison will be appropriately staffed throughout the closure process. We are striving to keep people as close to the community as possible, and (we are) working closely with the labor organizations on these efforts.

“Additionally, we are putting into motion the transfer of the incarcerated population at CCC to other facilities that can serve their individual needs.”
