Center Road burglary suspect in custody
The Lassen County Sheriff’s office announced they had suspect in custody following an attempted burglary near Center Road.
According to the LCSO Facebook page, deputies conducted a search late Saturday night
in the area near Center Road and Belfast Road utilizing handheld thermal imagers. The deputies noticed movement in a creek bed and contacted an individual hiding in the bushes. The individual was contacted and identified as the alleged suspect from the incident that was reported around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14. The unidentified man was arrested transported to the Lassen County Jail for booking.
According to the Facebook post, “Please join us in commending the persistent efforts of our patrol deputies who located and apprehended the alleged suspect. This incident is still being thoroughly investigated by Lassen County Sheriff’s detectives and further details will be released in the coming days. For now, again, the alleged suspect is in custody, and we hope the residents in that area of Lassen County can rest easy.”
The incident began around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, when the LCSO received a report of a burglary in progress in the area of Center Road near the prisons. Deputies believe a person arrived at the residence while the burglary was occurring, and the suspect held the victim at gunpoint before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle. The suspect drove to a residence on Center Road and rammed through a gate. Investigators located the vehicle, and the area was cleared by ground and air units. The suspect was still outstanding, described as a Hispanic man, around 5’7” tall, medium build, wearing a army green beanie, a black sweatshirt, black or dark blue pants and wearing black gloves. The suspect was believed to be armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. Residents in the area were advised to be cautious and on the lookout.
