Lassen County seniors who receive food from programs such as Meals on Wheels face some big changes.
About 18 months ago, Lassen Senior Services, a local nonprofit that has provided the service to about 110 homebound senior citizens for many years as well as lunches for seniors at the Lassen Senior Center, and the Planning and Service Area 2 Area Agency on Aging, the governmental agency that oversees and provides funding for similar programs in Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou and Trinity counties, encountered some disagreements and terminated their financial relationship. During that year and a half, Lassen Family Services has provided meals to the senior citizens without any funding from PSA 2 with money raised at local fundraisers.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, LSS announced the senior center would remain open, but it would no longer be providing meals to seniors effective Friday, Nov. 18.
LSS Director Penny Artz said she had notified the participants of the ending of the program.
