CHP fatal crash near Bogard Rest Area

A Roseburg, Oregon man was killed and another Roseburg man suffered major injuries following a single vehicle crash Monday Nov. 22 on Highway 44 near the Bogard Rest Area,

According to a statement from the CHP, about 5:24 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 22, an unidentified man, 68, and his unidentified passenger, 65, were eastbound on Highway 44 near the Bogard Rest Area. Witnesses observed the White 2015 ¾ ton Ford truck traveling approximately 60 miles-per-hour just prior to the collision.

For unknown reasons, the driver veered to the left and went off the roadway. The truck continued off the south roadway edge and collided with a small tree. After striking the small tree, the vehicle struck a much larger tree that stopped the vehicle. The passenger was not wearing her seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained major injuries and was Care-Flighted to Mercy Hospital in Redding.
