City announces holiday street closures

The city of Susanville will see two street closures within the next month.

The closure for the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot is Thursday, Nov. 22 and the annual Magical Country Christmas Celebration will be Saturday, Dec. 1.

The Bizz Running Company requested the city of Susanville support the 6th annual Turkey Trot, and the closure from 8 to 9 a.m. on Riverside Drive from Alexander Avenue to River Street.

The closure will help ensure the safety of participants in the 5K fun-run and food drive. With more than 300 individuals in attendance in the past years, this event has made a positive impact in addressing the needs of Lassen Senior Services.

The route of the fun-run will mostly utilize the Susan River Trail, but requires a complete closure of the mentioned streets.

The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce hosts the Magical Country Christmas Celebration. The celebration includes a lighted Christmas parade, tree lighting and fireworks display.

The closure will be on Main Street from Cottage Street to Weatherlow Street from 5 to 7 p.m.

Susanville Fire Chief James Moore mentioned at the Nov. 7 city council meeting, that he was looking into changing the location of the fireworks from at the base of the Elks Lodge, to the roof of the old Doyle Motors, citing safety reasons.

However, Moore also told the public the change was not set in stone.
