According to a statement from Kevin Jones, the city of Susanville’s interim city administrative officer, on the Susanville City Council unanimously approved a Wednesday, July 1 resolution supporting the recent declarations by Dr. Kenneth Korver, Lassen County’s Health Officer, and the Lassen County Board of Supervisors in declaring a public health emergency due to the COVID-19 outbreak at High Desert State Prison and the California Correctional Center.
According to the statement, “both HDSP and CCC are located within the city of Susanville and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s lack of appropriate response to this pandemic, along with their inability to confine the virus, poses a direct impact to the city of Susanville, our local healthcare system and our residents … (and the city council) understands the decisions that led to this breakout are based on CDCR’s directives and instructions, not from the local leadership at CCC.”
The emergency declarations are in response to CDCR’s transfer of COVID-19 infected inmates to the two local state prisons and more than 200 inmates who now t3st positive for the virus.
