College athletic department receives donation

The Lassen Community College District received a $20,000 bequest from the Estate of Andrew Valunder Jackson for use in the men and women’s basketball programs.

Jackson, who passed away December 2016, was a resident of Lassen County. Jackson left many bequests, and in court documents associated with the college’s bequest, Jackson not only gave to the college, but also to the Chief Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, a handful of churches in Alturas, Fall River Mills, Anderson, Redding, Hoopa and Carnegie, Oklahoma. The financial gifts to the churches were to be for the express purpose of maintenance on the buildings.

Dave Clausen, vice president of administrative services and Lassen College Foundation Treasurer, shared the news with the board.

Board member Tim Purdy shared that he knew Jackson, saying, “He was a Native American Maidu … and graduated Lassen High in 1948.”
