College offers opportunity to thank law enforcement

Community residents have an opportunity to publicly acknowledge our local law enforcement officers from the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol a few minutes before the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 men’s basketball game at the Lassen Community College Sports Complex.

That’s when LCC hosts the fourth annual Back the Badge event. The women’s team faces Butte College at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s team plays Butte at 7:30 p.m.

The college hosts a private dinner for the officers and their families including a silent auction and a presentation by Marlon Hall, the college’s president/ superintendent.

Our local officers will be honored just before the tip-off of the men’s game. In addition, Kevin Jones, Susanville’s new police chief, will be recognized by the college.

This is an opportunity for all of us in the community to tip our hats to the men and women of our law enforcement agencies who put their lives on the line to protect each and every one of us every time they don their uniforms. We should also thank LCC for hosting such a worthwhile event.

Thank you, and well done.

Don’t forget your sweetie on Valentine’s Day

Thursday, Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day — and you don’t want to miss it. To many, Valentine’s Day is perhaps the most romantic day of the entire year. But whatever you do, don’t forget to do something for your partner on Valentine’s Day.

For some, a card or a box of chocolates or a bouquet of flowers or a chilled bottle of bubbly or some combination may suffice.
Some locals say they’re spending the night at home with a great home-cooked meal.
