Cougars baseball swings Oakland team into the bay

The Lassen College Cougars baseball team headed to Oakland, California Saturday, Feb. 8 where they played a preseason game against Laney College.

The Cougars’ bats were ablaze with the Cougars winning 15-3 over the Oakland home team putting the Cougars at 8-3 in the preseason.

The Cougars wasted no time in the first inning. Bases were loaded when sophomore Jesse Dunham flied the ball out to right field but was able to bring in Chase Cripps for a run in the first inning.

The Laney Eagles responded in the bottom of the second, picking up three runs taking a 3-1 lead over the Cougars. But those three runs would be all they would pick up.

Freshman Rafael Gutierrez would bring in the final two runs of the seventh inning for the Cougars with a single to right field bringing home Richardson and Cripps putting the Cougars well ahead 10-3.

The top of the eighth inning was another successful one for the Cougars bats, with Springer being first up slamming a double out to left field, with Emilio Martinez being walked on four pitches.
