Cougars close out season, dropping two to Butte

On Thursday May 27, the Lassen College baseball team hosted Butte College in a doubleheader, dropping both games in the final outing of their 2021 season.

Connor Irvine was the game one starting pitcher. Irvine pitched well in his four innings. His only mistake was surrendering a three run homerun. Bennett King pitched in relief giving up two runs. Dylan Chalmers relieved him, striking out five and giving up two runs in his two innings of work. Offensively for the Cougars, Arnel Ramilo, Nate Morgan, and Chase Cripps had multiple hit games. Ramilo and Layne Thacker each contributed an RBI in the 7-6 Cougar loss.

In game two, the Lassen offense again took an early lead. But as in game one, the offense again sputtered late. Rafael Gutierrez led the way with two hits and an RBI. Layne Thacker had a double and two RBI’s in the losing effort. Giovanni Ramos was the starting pitcher. He threw two innings before the bullpen took over. Kyle Norton pitched 3.1 innings in relief, striking out four, giving up two runs.

Bennett King and Clay Parry pitched the final five outs. They shut Butte down while striking out four in the 8-5 loss. Lassen finished the season 12-12, after The College of the Siskiyous was unable to play the final four games.

“It was certainly a different season, but these kids got a lot of college experience and have shown that we have an outstanding nucleus coming back. We have some good commitments coming in as well and have much to look forward to,” said Head Coach Frank Avilla.
