Despite my déjà vu all over again — I say hold the evildoers accountable

Oh my. The latest batch of allegations regarding the evil Democrats and former President Barack Obama and his corrupt administration creating the so-called Russia, Russia, Russia hoax as a treasonous means to hamstring the first Trump administration seem like just more of the same old, worn-out news I’ve been hearing for years.

I guess it’s as easy for some to ignore these allegations and just chalk them up to just another case of President Donald Trump’s deflection of other stories in the news and to a continuation of his seemingly endless wails of fake news bias and perpetual victimhood as it is for others to dance around the blazing bonfire in the legacy media darkness holding up the newly discovered smoking gun found lurking in some filing cabinet in the bowels of the Capitol.

I realize my views of the role and practice of journalism are both old-fashioned and old-school. I believe in the free and open  “marketplace of ideas” espoused by Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. — the notion that the consideration and examination of different ideas and perspectives, regardless of their origin, is the best way for informed citizens to discover the truth of a matter.

I post stories on LassenNews from both the left and the right, even though I recognize many on the right will accuse me of being a puppet of the left and dismiss LassenNews as just another fake news, left-wing rag because I post a story that presents a different view. I freely accept those slings and arrows. Have at it.

Now I don’t know the validity of these “new” allegations coming out of Washington. Seriously, isn’t this the same stuff we’ve been hearing for years? Am I missing something? And I realize it’s impossible for a Susanville journalist like me to offer any original reporting on this story.

So here’s my bottom line. Despite America’s obvious failures and foibles over the years, I believe in my country. I believe in our institutions. I don’t have any affection for Trump, but my countrymen put him in office. Again. Twice. I accept that completely. That’s how we do it in America. I want him to succeed because I want my county to succeed. And if he truly has been wronged, he deserves the same justice we all demand for ourselves.

If it can be proven in a court of law that Obama and members of his administration broke the law, they should be held accountable.

I say, let’s get to the truth and put this behind us once and for all. No one is above the law, not even those evil Democrats.

And if you’re a loyal LassenNews reader, I promise you can expect to see statements on all sides of this story as it develops.
