Driver injured as logging truck crashes into river

The day started out badly for the driver of an SPI truck.

At about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, Andrew Abramenko, 41, of, Redding, was driving an unloaded blue 2016 Peterbilt logging truck registered to Sierra Pacific Industries eastbound on Highway 36 (Main Street) in Chester, east of Willow Way.

According to the CHP report, Abramenko was driving at approximately 49 miles-per-hour in a 30-mph zone when the Peterbilt to left the roadway to the south. The truck crashed into the North Fork of the Feather River, causing a minor fluid spill.

Abramenko was transported to Seneca Hospital for minor injuries.  The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
