Driver killed when train hits big rig

An Arizona man died when he drove his big rig into the path of an oncoming train.

According to a statement from the California Highway Patrol, Jose O. Togni, 64, of Goodyear, Arizona, was driving a 2023 Freightliner with a 53-foot box trailer eastbound on Highway 44 at an unknown speed about 3:46 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6,

For unknown reasons, Togni failed to stop at the Feather Lake Railroad Crossing east of A-21 as a train was approaching. A 2014 GE locomotive operated by BNSF Railway collided with the front of the Freightliner, and Togni suffered fatal injuries on the scene as a result of the crash.
