Election information for June 7, statewide direct primary election
The June 7, statewide direct primary election might seem months away — and it is — but the election process begins long before election day itself. The declaration of candidacy process runs from Feb. 14, through March 11, although some candidates have been collecting signatures in lieu of paying filing fees.
Susanville City Council
Three seats (two full-term seats and one partial term seat) are up for election on the Susanville City Council. Councilmembers run at large and there are no districts. Candidates for city offices file at the City Clerk’s Office, 66 North Lassen St., Susanville. A candidate must be a registered voter of the City of Susanville at the time nomination papers are issued. The term of office is four years and begins in June 2022.
Lassen County non-partisan offices
Two seats on the Lassen County Board of Supervisors (District 3 and District 5) will be filled in the June 27 election. The Nomination/Declaration of Candidacy Filing Period is Feb. 14, through March 11. All county non-partisan offices require a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 40 nomination signatures. Candidates must be a registered voter and otherwise qualified to vote for that office at the time nomination papers are issued, and shall reside in the district during term of office. Each member shall have been a registered voter of the district which they seek to represent for at least 30 days immediately preceding the deadline for filing nomination documents for the office, and candidates shall reside in the district during their incumbency. The term of office is four years and begins Jan. 2, 2023. Other county offices up for election include the Lassen County Assessor; Lassen County Auditor; Lassen County District Attorney; Lassen County Clerk/Recorder/Registrar of Voters; Lassen County Sheriff/Coroner; Lassen County Superintendent of Schools; and the Lassen County Treasurer/Tax Collector.
State and district offices
State and district offices up for election include Governor; Lieutenant Governor; Secretary of State; Controller; Treasurer; Attorney General; Insurance Commissioner; Superintendent of Public Instruction; Members of the State Board of Equalization, 1st District; United States Senator (full term) and United States Senator (partial/unexpired term); Representatives to the United States Congress; and the State Assembly, 1st District seat.
