Fair Advisory Board votes to cancel Fair; supes will probably make the final decision

The Lassen County Fair Advisory Board voted to cancel the 2020 Lassen County Fair at its Monday, June 22 meeting.

Richard Egan, Lassen County’s administrative officer, said he planned to recommend the Lassen County Board of Supervisors to accept the advisory board’s recommendation and direct the fair manager to cancel the many contracts associated with the fair.

“There are many contracts with various vendors that we’ll have to work our way through,” Egan said.

Some of those contracts may have cancellation fees, Egan said.

For example, he mentioned the Parmalee concert scheduled for the fair, and he expects the concert promoter may cancel the show without any payment from the county.

“Right now you can’t have a concert period, according to the state’s guidance,” Egan said.

Egan said he hoped arrangements could be made to hold the livestock events like the Junior Livestock Auction remotely.

He also said the races at Diamond Mountain Speedway continue and the 4th of July Fireworks show is expected to be held as planned.

Jim Wolcott, the Lassen County Fair manager, did not return the Times’ call for comment on this story.
