Based on a tip by a citizen, the Susanville Fire Department responded to a fire at the Young Sing restaurant, 1350 Main St., about 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 19.
Engine 621 arrived on the scene within 30 seconds of the dispatch from the Susanville Interagency Dispatch Center.
Upon arrival, the fire crew observed heavy smoke coming from the roof of the restaurant. E621, with assistance from the Susanville Police Dept, forced entry into the rear of the restaurant. Once entry was made, the kitchen area was on fire and spreading to the seating area. E621 was able to prevent the fire from spreading. Upon the arrival of CalFire E2261, E621 and E2261, firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked to overhaul the structure. This involved removing portions of the ceiling and walls to check for possible extension of the fire. The fire originated in the waitstaff prep station, and the cause is still under investigation.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Cal Fire, the CDCR Fire Department, the Susan River Fire Protection District, the city of Susanville Water and Gas Departments, the Lassen Municipal Utility District, the Susanville Police Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department supported the SFD in this incident.
