Fire department responds to vehicle fire

The Susanville Fire Department responded to the area of 2550 Riverside Drive for a reported passenger vehicle fire about 8:21 a.m. Friday, April 27.

According to a statement from the SFD, upon arrival, E-621 observed a vacant, single vehicle with moderate smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment. E-621 initiated fire suppression at the front of the vehicle and stabilized the vehicle. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished.

The fire’s spread was slowed by the quick reaction of a US Forest Service law enforcement officer.

After the fire was extinguished, a fire cause and origin investigation was conducted. The cause was determined to be mechanical failure. This is supported by the location of the origin and fire damage intensity found in the engine compartment next to the driver-side headlight.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. SFD was supported by the Susanville Police Department, Susanville Public Works, and US Forest Service law enforcement.
