Firefighters, officers seek donations for annual Holiday with a Hero
When the holidays come around, children in Lassen County have some pretty good friends in first responders from the Susanville Fire Department, the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, parole and probation officers, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, High Desert State Prison, the California Correctional Center the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office, SEMSA and all other firefighters and first response agencies.
Five years ago, law enforcement officers joined the Shop With A Cop program that served about 55 youngsters. Last year that number grew to more than 140 and all the other first responders joined to expand and transform the program into the Holiday with a Hero program.
This year the Susanville Fire Department and the Susanville Police Officers Association will be soliciting donations from the community to serve and support the local children.
According to a statement from James Moore, Susanville’s fire chief, “I ask that you please support this program as it has become a blessing to many members of our community. It not only ensures their children receive desperately needed items for the year to come, but fosters feelings of love, caring and friendship. This program also develops a partnership and bond with public safety and our community as we come together with a common goal to ‘serve our fellow man.’”
