Gary Felt Kilt Classic Golf Tournament coming June 1

The Salvation Army and the Sunrise Rotary Club present the 3rd annual Gary Felt Kilt Classic Golf Tournament at the Diamond Mountain Golf Course Saturday, June 1.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Salvation Army and the Sunrise Rotary Club’s Gary Felt Memorial High School Scholarship.

The tournament honors Felt’s memory. He was Mr. Susanville — a beloved friend to all, a community leader and mover and shaker who worked tirelessly for the betterment of everyone and every organization in our community. He also served as the president of local Salvation Army board. Why, he even had his very own table at the old Lassen Ale Works on Main Street. His gracious presence in our community will forever be sorely missed.

The registration deadline for the tournament has been extended, so it’s not too late to register at either the Salvation Army ((530) 257-0314) or the Diamond Mountain Golf Course ((530) 257-2520).

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. There is a bagpipe ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and an online auction. Lunch is provided. The tournament fee is $100 per player or $400 per team.

According to a statement from the Salvation Army, “The Salvation Army provides a variety of services and programs to families in Lassen County. Our programs include emergency assistance in the form of daily food, utilities, transportation, rent, car parts, Thanksgiving and Christmas food, Angel Tree gifts, a week-long summer camp and a back-to-school program that provides clothing, backpacks, haircuts, and supplies to local children.

“On June 1, 2024, we will host our 3rd annual Gary Felt Kilt Classic golf tournament. Gary (aka Mr. Susanville) touched the heart of our community, and he is deeply missed. This tournament is now an annual event to honor him and keep his spirit of giving and service alive in all of us.

“We equest your consideration in sponsoring a hole as a portion of our tournament. Any amount is appreciated, and we will list your organization as a generous sponsor at the event, on the auction website and Facebook page.

“In addition to event expenses (food, printing/advertising, bag piper, etc.), we are also in need of auction items for our Online Auction. Instead of people buying tickets for a raffle, we will conduct a virtual auction where bidding can be done the week leading up to the tournament and while players are on the course. It should be a lot of fun as well as a good revenue generator, so the prizes will help spark the competition.

“Your generous gift is tax-deductible, and you will receive a donation receipt with our tax ID number. Thank you for your consideration in partnering with us. Please do not hesitate to call (530) 257-0314 with any questions.”
