Getting ready for the Candidate’s Forum

With only four days left before’s Candidate Forum held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, I must admit I’m getting a little bit excited.

Good news for both Lassen County Board of Supervisors races. One supervisorial candidate who said he was unsure if he would attend has now committed. Another supervisorial candidate who said he would not attend the event now says he will, depending on a possible family obligation.

I hope they both will attend so the forum gives every candidate their due. As I’ve said before, my goal is not to boost or hurt any of the candidates. My goal is to let my community get to know these candidates before the election.

All four Susanville City Council candidates have agreed to attend, now all four of the Lassen County Supervisor candidates are expected and both candidates for the Lassen County Superior Court seat have said they will attend. Ya! That’s all our local candidates.

Now we’re working with the fairgrounds and county staff to set up Jensen Hall and to utilize its sound and audiovisual capabilities. Thanks for all your help.

The Lassen County Board of Realtors has stepped up to support the event, and they will be providing refreshments for the public. I can’t tell you how grateful I am this organization supports our event and has offered to help. Frankly, I am humbled they cared enough to get involved. I never expected it. Thank you again.

I have a few questions I will ask all the candidates — such as giving them an opportunity to introduce themselves to the public; explain their goals and what they hope to accomplish; and what challenges do they see during their term. But that’s not all.

I have received some good questions and concerns from the public, but I’d still like more questions from the public from which to choose. I’d like questions all the candidates can answer instead of “I gotcha questions” aimed at a single candidate. I’m also trying to figure out a way to ask questions that might give incumbents an advantage because they are more familiar with the governmental process. I have promised and dedicated myself to be fair to all the candidates, and that’s what I intend to do.

If you have a question, send it to me at or give me a call at (530) 310-0459. Members of the public also may submit a question at the forum. The more questions I have at my disposal, the more informative the forum will be. Thank you all. I appreciate your help.

It seems the pundits always say the upcoming election is the most important election ever — and in many ways that’s not just hyperbole. Those we elect in March will lead our community for years to come. I don’t know about you, but I believe that choice is pretty important. I hope you’ll join the candidates, the public and me at 6 p.m. Monday night at Jensen Hall in the hopes we may make wise, informed decisions come election day.

Thank you everybody for your support.
