Grizzlies show competition how to run Ranch Park

The Lassen High cross country team showed great endurance and sportsmanship at their single yearly home meet at Susanville’s Ranch Park.

The Wednesday, Oct. 2 Northern Athletic League saw the Grizzlies up against U-Prep, Central Valley and Yreka.

The JV team ran a 2-mile course starting at the Ranch Park parking lot and going right and around the Bagwell Meadow. Varsity ran a 3-mile course having the same start but took a divergence up and around Coyote Bluff and retraced their route back through the Bagwell Meadow trail.

The JV girls were the first race of the day and Lassen’s Sierra Marshall took first place with a final time of 16 minutes and 36.9 seconds. Elizabeth Mahnke finished in sixth recording a time of 25:40.0.

The JV boys had three solid runners: The ever-fast Jay McKernan took second just behind Yreka, timing in at 13:43.6. His teammate, Tristan Marshal, finished in sixth place at a time of 14:04.2. Dominic Robinson finished 19th, at clocking in at 17:48.4.

The varsity girls faired well, despite the level and amount of competition they faced. Brooklyn Smith took 10th for the Grizzlies with a final time of 25:47.4, while fellow teammate Annie Mahnke finished 12th at a time of 33:02.1.

The largest group, the varsity boys all came in close proximity with each other starting with Garrett Sandborg, who took seventh for the Grizzlies, finished with time of 18:36.0. Jacob Daniels followed close behind in eighth, clocking in at 18:37.1.

Trenton Morgan was slotted just a few places back in 12th with a time of 19:01.9.

Jack Duncan finished in 15th place with a final time of 19:53.7. Skyler Sager in 18th place timed in at 22:43.2, while teammate Waylon Miller finished 18th, clocking in at 22:50.1.

The Grizzlies will next be competing at West Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 16, where they will race against, Yreka, West Valley and Anderson.
