Grizzly baseball eradicate Pirates and Warriors at jamboree
The Lassen High baseball team gave fans a taste of the upcoming season by beating out two great teams at the Gold Nugget Jamboree held from Thursday, March 16 to Saturday, March 18 in Yreka, California.
Lassen’s first opponent at the tournament was Del Norte High School’s Warrior team from Crescent City, California. The Grizzlies finished the game with a 10-0 shutout.
Game two for the Grizzlies was against the Phoenix Pirates from Phoenix, Oregon. The Pirates put up a much stronger fight than the Warriors, but Lassen still left the game with a 16-12 win.
Jacob Bennett pitched the Warrior game shutout with a total of 74 pitches from 21 batters.
Throughout the game, Bennett only gave away three hits and three balls. He struck out two and didn’t allow any runs.
Regarding Lassen’s batting, the boys had 10 hits in total with the first in the first inning, the next four in the second inning and the final five in the fourth inning.
Runs were made by Steven Cagle, Jagger Delgado, Zach George, Bennett, Korbin Drake, Darrell Miller and Carson Chavez.
Miller scored four RBIs and hit a homerun; Chavez hit a homerun to bring another point for Lassen High.
Bennett was the only one to hit a double during the game, and both Zach George and Dustin Morgan were able to steal a base throughout the game.
In the second game, Lassen faced the Pirates and emerged victorious with a final score of 16-12.
The Grizzlies saw five pitchers on the mound throughout the game.
Malik Delgado and Jagger Delgado each pitched for one-third of an inning, Seth McCart pitched for two-thirds of an inning, Miller pitched one and two-thirds innings and Chavez pitched four solid innings.

The five Grizzlies faced 43 batters and made a total of 168 pitches.
Jagger Delgado, Miller and Chavez each pitched a strikeout.
Regarding offensive play, Steven Cagle, Jagger Delgado, Josiah Snell, Bennett and Drake each scored one run. Malik Delgado, Miller, Dustin Morgan and Chavez each made two runs. Cole Dyer made three runs.
Miller also had the most RBIs with a total of five. Chavez made three, Zach George made two and Snell, Bennett and Dyer each made one.
Dyer was the only player to hit a double in the game, but Dyer, Miller and Chavez each scored a homerun.
Malik Delgado stole two bases throughout the game, and Cagle, George and Miller each stole one.
The Grizzlies then traveled to the ACA Invitational in Redding, California from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday, March 25. While at the tournament, Lassen faced Colusa High School from Colusa, California and Las Plumas High School from Oroville, California.
