Grizzly baseball finishes season with awards
After a great season played by both the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams at Lassen High School, the Grizzlies tucked away their gloves and called it good.
The varsity Grizzlies finished the season with a 22-9 record overall and an 8-2 record for the league. At the season’s end, Lassen finished with a state ranking of 362, a Northern Section ranking of 9 and a Northern Section Division III ranking of 2.
Lassen faced off against Sutter High School during the section championship game on May 20. Their participation in the section championship game marked the third time the Grizzlies qualified in the last four years.
Varsity head coach Scott Foreman said, “This team was very successful and it can be attributed to the players’ hard work, dedication, willingness to compete and their ability to learn the game of baseball.”
When all was said and done, the Grizzlies earned numerous awards and recognitions.
For the varsity team, Carson Chavez was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and Jagger Delgado was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Hunter St. Andre was awarded Pitcher of the Year.
The varsity Coaches Awards were presented to Malik Delgado, Seth McCart and Josiah Snell.
As for the Northern Athletic League awards present to the varsity team, Carson Chavez was named NAL MVP. Jagger Delgado, St. Andre and Darrel Miller were each presented with the title of All-League. Jacob Bennett was named Honorable Mention.
The junior varsity team finished the season with a 6-1-1 record in the Northern Athletic League and they were named League Champions.
Jake McCart and David Painter were both awarded MVP for the junior varsity team. Ethan Williams was voted Best Defense and Evan Westfall was voted Best Offense.
