Have you picked up your copy of the inaugural edition of High Country Life yet?
High Country Life — a Feather Publishing produced, full-color monthly magazine — features in-depth stories and colorful photographs about the people, places and history in and around the region that includes Plumas, Lassen and Sierra counties. As events return, future editions will include a convenient list of these activities as well.
Thanks to advertising support, the magazine is free and available on newsstands at a number of businesses throughout the three-county region. The next issue is scheduled to be out the first week in February, and then monthly thereafter.
High Country Life is published by Feather Publishing Co., which published the six weekly newspapers in Plumas and Lassen County for decades — in the case of Quincy’s Feather River Bulletin, it was 153 years. Unfortunately, that came to an abrupt end last April when the weekly papers were forced to suspend publication as a result of the financial impact from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Publisher Cobey Brown says he is not sure if and when the newspapers will be able to generate the financial support they need to resume publishing. In the meantime, his company continues to expand access to local news coverage on its two respective websites, plumasnews.com and lassennews.com, as well as continuing with a few of Feather Publishing’s niche publications that include the Visitors Guides, map booklets, telephone directory and Dining Guide. The company continues to operate its full service print shop for everything from business cards and flyers to business invoices and customized forms.
“High Country Life isn’t intended to replace our weekly newspapers, but rather fill a void that now exists in covering the many, many things that make our piece of the Sierra Nevada mountain range such a great place to live, work and raise a family. During these trying and uncertain times, the magazine is also intended to provide local advertisers with an affordable and effective means of getting their message delivered to the many people who live in this region,” Brown explained.
