High school to move to temporary distance learning due to COVID
Lassen Union High School District is moving to a temporary distance learning model as local community COVID-19 cases increase.
LHS Principal/ Superintendent Morgan Nugent shared the update during a Thursday Facebook live video on the LHS page. In the video, he announced while school would be in-person today, Friday, Sept. 3, they would be moving to distance learning Tuesday, Sept. 7. He clarified in the comments school would be back on Sept. 13.
“Unfortunately, due to the increased number of COVID cases that we’re seeing across the county and in our schools, we’re going to have to pull the plug after tomorrow,” Nugent said in the video update. “On Tuesday, we’ll be going into more of a distance learning model.”
Nugent said students would receive a computer if they didn’t have one at home, and some students, depending on their situations, would still be allowed to come to campus.
Nugent also reminded students and parents on what to do if they’re sick.
“If your child is sick, keep them at home. We’ve got a couple different cases where kids have been sent here to school and have been sick, and when we do the testing, the kid is positive with it,” Nugent said.
He also encouraged students to wear masks.
“The situations where they’re not, we’re simply able to trace it from one student to the next, and we hate to see that happening, whereas in the past we never saw the transfer from student to student, this year we are seeing that,” Nugent added.
