According to a Facebook post, the California Highway Patrol reports hot embers ignited a fire in a garbage truck in Westwood.
According to the post, “Please do not throw your hot embers in the trash. Unfortunately, someone decided to throw their fireplace/woodstove embers into a dumpster which then ignited one of our local garbage trucks while they were out on their pickup route. The driver of the garbage truck fortunately noticed the flames coming from the top of his truck and took swift action in calling 911. A huge thanks to Westwood Fire and CalFire for their quick response and for getting this fire out before it burned up the garbage truck. Make sure your embers are out before discarding.”
