Human-caused fire burns Riverside Drive structure

The Susanville Fire Department responded to a structure fire near the entrance of 1625 Riverside Drive at 7:41 p.m. Saturday, April 2.

The first-arriving engine company reported a fully involved structure with heavy smoke and flames coming from all openings that threatened nearby houses. Firefighters defended the houses with defensive fire attack efforts using hand lines surrounding the structure and the Truck 1 aerial master stream. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and contained the fire to the structure of origin.

According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, “The fire is human-caused and originated in the basement level of the structure … The structure is known to be used by transients.”

The Susanville Police Department, The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, CalFire, the Susan River Fire District and the California Correctional Center Fire Department assisted the SFP.

Twenty-one personnel responded, including two chief officers, one truck, four engines two SPD units and two LCSO units.
