Human remains found at Westwood fire scene

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office reports the body of a Westwood man was discovered at a fire scene Thursday, Jan. 14.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the decedent by x-ray comparison as David Allen Yount, 67, of Westwood, California.

According to a statement from the LCSO, deputies responded to a structure fire at 612 Ash St. in Westwood about 10:18 p.m. Jan. 14.

Upon arrival, the deputies discovered a single story residence fully engulfed in flames. Due to the intense fire activity, deputies were unable to safely enter the residence, and they began evacuating surrounding residences until fire personnel arrived on scene.

After the structure fire was contained, Westwood fire personnel and deputies from the LCSO located human remains inside the residence. Deputies removed the remains, and transferred them to the WCRMEO.

According to the statement, “Our condolences go out to Mr. Yount’s family and friends.”
