Information sought on Reno murder suspect

The Reno Police Department seeks information on a suspected murder suspect arrested in Lassen County Wednesday, Aug. 12.

According to a release from the Reno Police Department, the CHP stopped a vehicle on Highway 395 South and Hall Road for traffic violations about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. Officers immediately recognized that the driver, Jesus Padilla, was acting suspiciously.

During their investigation, officers became concerned that Padilla may have been involved in a violent crime in the Reno area. CHP asked for the assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department and the Reno Police Department. Ultimately, the RPD located a crime scene in the 3600 block of Grant Drive in Reno where officers located a deceased female who is believed to be an associate of Padilla.

Detectives from the Robbery Homicide Unit responded and began conducting an investigation. It is believed that Padilla killed the female a few hours prior to the traffic stop.  Detectives do not believe anyone else was involved in the crime.

Padilla is being held at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department for homicide and DUI pending extradition to Reno. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
