Inmate back in custody after walking away

UPDATE: As of 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, Robert Dale Cox is back in custody thanks to an off duty deputy sheriff and the  Susanville Police Department, according to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

An inmate from the Lassen County Jail “walked away” Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, according to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

“On the afternoon of Sept. 11, Robert Dale Cox, age 51, of Burney California, walked away from an outside work crew at the Lassen County Jail. Cox is 5’06” 160 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes. If you see Cox call 911, or the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 257-6121,” read a statement from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Cox was in custody for auto theft.

On Facebook, the department also elaborated Cox was not the person involved in the pursuit Sept. 11. “That person (who drove recklessly through the City of Susanville) was caught in Tehama County with the help of Plumas S.O. and CHP,” read the post from the department.
