Inspectors work to update structure loss map

Inspectors are heading out and updating the structures lost to the Dixie Fire, Cal Fire Interagency Management Team Operations Section Chief Mark Brunton shared during his Wednesday morning West Zone video update.

The structure loss map is being continually updated as teams conduct inspections. The map can drive be found here.

According to Brunton, contingency lines around Janesville were successful in saving some structures when the Monday spot fire moved down toward the community; however, there was some structure loss to the south of main Janesville. The fire also crossed Highway 395 and has been prompting road closures and one-way controlled traffic as crews continue to battle the wildfire. As the Dixie Fire continued to move near Highway 395 last night — burning a new fuel type that moves faster — crews “Were able to herd it around structures, especially near the community of Milford,” Brunton shared.

He noted there was some structure loss, “mainly outbuildings” but many structures were saved.

The map will be continually updated as officials conduct inspections.
