Janesville’s Jolly Elders Senior Center hopes to create congregate meal program for Lassen County seniors

The Jolly Elders Senior Center in Janesville has recognized a need for congregate meals for local seniors, and they’re working on creating a program to fill that need.

Lassen County senior citizens meet at the Jolly Elders Senior Center in Janesville last year to lay a foundation to serve the needs of local seniors. Now the center hopes to develop a congregate meals program for senior citizens.

Kam Vento, one of the effort’s organizers, said he’s looking for volunteers and trying to gauge the interest among the county’s seniors.

He said if everything goes well, it might take a month or two to get a program in place, that will give seniors a chance the mingle, chat and share lunch a couple of days a week.

He said the effort is about more than just feeding seniors a meal — it’s about giving them an opportunity to meet and socialize as they dine together.

The Jolly Elders plan to work with Dignity Health, the agency that provides to go meals at the Susanville Assembly of God Church in Susanville.
