Joan’s Studio of Dance prepares for Christmas

The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a very busy time of the year. Of all the many events occurring in this short time period, there are always performances from dance studios.

In Susanville, the J&J Performing Arts Christmas Extraordinaire is a well-known event in the Christmas season.

Joan’s Studio of Dance, like J&J, has an annual Christmas performance. Joan holds an open house the week before the studio closes for Christmas to showcase what all of her dancers have learned so far in the year.

Along with Joan Zelhke, teachers Jillaine Singleton and Clara Holmes prepare Christmas dances to show to friends, family, and other visitors who come to the Christmas open house.

The open house is a more relaxed performance than the annual Nutcracker performances or spring recital and allows for the audience to get a much closer view of the dancers.

All of the students enjoy the event as well because it is always fun to perform for people, even in an informal, short performance. Since there are only two big performances for the dancers at Joan’s Studio of Dance, the Christmas Open House is a very welcome event for the dancers to get to dance for an audience.
