John E. Mulcahy, Jr.

John E. Mulcahy, Jr. passed away July 25, 2023 in Yakima, Washington due to complications arising from Lewy Body dementia. He was 73 years old.
John was born June 3, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late John E. Mulcahy and the late Agnes E. Mulcahy (nee Liss). He was father/father-in-law to Ryan Mulcahy of Lynnwood, Washington and his wife Ashley and Jennifer Peppler (nee Mulcahy) of Paradise, California and her husband Jason. John was grandfather to Joshua and Sophia Peppler, brother to Wayne Mulcahy and his wife Mary and uncle to Andrew Mulcahy, Laura Kemmerer (nee Mulcahy) and Matthew Mulcahy.
John was raised in Rockledge, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Abington High School and then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Pennsylvania State University (PSU). A lifelong learner, John earned a Master’s Degree in Behavioral Science later in life from CSU Dominguez Hills.
After graduating from PSU, John worked caring for the animals at the San Mateo, California Zoo before serving in the Army and becoming an instructor in animal husbandry. Following his discharge from the Army, John moved to Susanville, California where he became a welding instructor at Lassen Community College.
It was John’s passion for teaching that defined his career and it was through teaching that John touched the lives of many in his community.
When not teaching or volunteering his time, John was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time trucking, hiking, riding and kayaking through the Northern California backcountry.
He could also be found on his small farm, tending to his animals and raising horses. Following retirement, John continued to pursue his passion for animal husbandry and spent his time raising and breeding draft horses.
John is survived by his children, his brother Wayne, his wife Charlene and his dogs Patches and Molly.
