“My decision to step away as the Administrator has been in the works for a period of time,” Jones announced in a statement shared Tuesday, March 9.

“I began this position as the Interim Administrator in May of 2020 and appointed the full-time Administrator Sept. 1, 2020. The immediate issues faced by the city with the advent of COVID were very challenging. However, I leave this position proud of the many accomplishments we completed as a team over the last 10 months. It was a very educational and rewarding experience that I won’t forget.

“I thank all of our city employees for their hard work and support of my role as Administrator. It was a joy.

“I proudly return to my full-time role as the chief of police after today, where I work with an equally special group of people,” read the statement.

During the Wednesday, March 3 Susanville City Council meeting, Jones announced out of closed session Dan Newton would serve as the interim city administrator.
